CRB Rectangular Shroud/ QuadRail Mod
I'm working on a project to replace the round shroud with a rectangular shroud with quadrails.
I have a few questions before I start though.. I thinking of making the end caps out of Delrin but that could be a problem if the barrel gets too hot. Does anyone have any data on barrel temp after rapid fire?
Has anyone got the barrel to glow red at all? If so then I can deduce the lowest temp is 900F.
Also, this project may morph into the no-mod CRB suppressor project that I mentioned about a year ago.
I'm not sure if anyone has noticed how the front site can easily be flexed side to side on the gun.. My design will stiffen the entire chassis and make it more accurate hopefully. (not that is isn't accurate.. but I watched a slow motion vid of the vector rapid firing and it looked like it was going to fall apart.. it was flexing all over the place. So more rigidity couldn't hurt I guess.)
I would love to hear your thoughts and input! I think the rectangular shroud will look bad ass and having quadrails would be pretty sweet.

This is a mock up of what I envision.. and it includes my Front Grip Dual Mag Holder (from another post)
As compared to the stock look..
Thanks,
Chris

Re: CRB Rectangular Shroud/ QuadRail Mod
hey Chris
I've got the SDP, so I'm of no help. lol
just thought I'd comment rather than look and leave...
this part of the forum looks pretty dead.
but going back to your question, my concern would be loosing accurcy after adding weight thats touching the barrel?
like I said, SDP...so take my comment with a grain of salt

You may want to consider trying this one. It does not replace the whole shroud though

Its for the airsoft but KWA makes a very accurate replica and it should fit and its made out of aluminum

Yea I'm surprised that there isn't more action in here involving mods.. I guess everyone thinks the Kriss Vector is cool enough as is.
I think most of the weight will be supported at the base of the barrel and I plan to tie that endcap to the chassis somehow.. either by extending it into the flashlight hole and/or tying the rails together somehow.. like a connector possibly.
My other idea is to make 12" picatinny rails that mount on the sides of the vector (mounting holes) and extend out onto the shroud.. they would go out to about 4" from the end of the shroud. So, hopefully one or all of those ideas will allow me to not put weight on the end of the barrel. It could possibly be floating of I can make it rigid enough.. although I think solscud posted something about the accuracy being worse if the shroud is remove.. I'm not sure what would cause that.
I plan to do plenty of accuracy testing before and after to make sure the new shroud does not hurt accuracy.
Thanks for the comment! I'm going to start designing the encaps today and I'm awaiting my aluminum tubes (don't tell Bush!)

It has already been done in Taiwan by Hank Chen (no relation to me)
