Can you tell us more about this step? It doesn't look like you used the SureFire adapter at all and I'm curious how it's being kept "straight". I can see the set screw up front (and assume the other further in is being used too), but what's holding the rest in place? Your finished product looks really good! Very Happy

The light is just a little larger than the opening, so I took a 7/8 reamer by hand and opened it up. The fit is really tight and after I pushed the laser in it was only 1 turn up then 1 turn to the left and it lined up with my EOTech. The light set screw also holds it in place.

Some nice mods, but I'm kinda lazy. Thinking of picking up a laser/ light combo to mount on the side rail...

Laser in the light house - Page 2 Empty The Leapers UTG SCP-LS269 fits "almost" perfectly

Post by rich-miller Sun Aug 19, 2012 2:29 pm

I've wanted to put a laser in the lighthouse since i got my Vector. I bought the Leapers UTG SCP-LS269 from CTD.com and set out to tackle this mini project. It does fit , but it takes some custom modding of the laser to get it to work. I literally shaved down the end cap (that hold in the battery) to paper thin edges to make it work, but it slides in nicely after you take off the fancy edged and bevel. A little gun lube on the laser and keeping the end cap slightly loose did the trick. I also had to shim the body of the laser a bit with some copper shims (and crazy glue to keep it tight), but the placement there is far better for a laser than a light so it was worth the work. This is especially true in california with a long barrel where the light gets partially blocked by the barrel shroud. I mounted the Flashlight on the right side optional rail kit.

It look about 6 hours to grind down the end cap of the laser without melting the wires and electronics, but it was worth it. Smile

Alignment is perfect, suspicions confirmed!!

Hey, cool! Post some pics when you get a chance. I'm still waiting on the part from Leapers for the SCP-LS279 that I have. The 279 looks to be a smaller unit then the one you got working. Very Happy

I used the adapter from the TacPac too, that's why i needed to shim the body of the laser, to make it fit "perfectly", it was about .1 shy. There is a small 1/8 inch gap between the body and the adapter because my goal was to NOT modify the upper body at all and the laser is about 1/8 inch longer than the length of the cavity. I'm on the way to the range right now, but i made a picture of the gun my avatar. Smile

From what i can tell, that's the same kit that i used. I thought about taking pictures as i was doing it, but i was lazy, sorry.

just a random thought. there is an airsoft version of the surefire for $60 with mount for Vector. Im wondering if someone with technical knowledge can use that body for a laser.

TEASER ALERT: Leapers/UTG manufactured a new flip to side universal mount in early January:

RG-FL25QS
http://www.leapers.com/prod_detail.php?mitem=Mounting%20Systems&itemno=RG-FL25QS

Why this is important to me is that this mount contains an adapter/sleeve that fits the green laser... the very one that I mentioned earlier in this thread.

Laser in the light house - Page 2 Rgfl25qspro2

The fine folks at Leapers shipped a sleeve to me for a test fit with the Vector. I took the saw to it for length... and it's a perfect fit into the KRISS SureFire E1B adapter... set screws and all! One cut with a Sawzall blade and touch up the cut edge with a file and mount it. (The cut edge goes inside the SureFire adapter anyways.) No drilling required for the set screws either. It's been a long time coming, but it was worth the wait (to me) for that "stock" look using off-the-shelf parts with no modifications to the Vector.

All I have right now are phone camera pics that I will try to get posted soon.... so, I'll be the first one to say it:

nopics

Here are the not-so-great phone camera pics...

Here is the Leapers/UTG adapter. Note the UTG letters at the bottom of the "bezel" end and the split running the length of it.
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1909e

Only one end has the "bezel" and that's the end we need to cut off to use with the SureFire adapter.
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1910v

Make the cut right where the diameter changes... like so:
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1913ou

Slide the "bezel" over the laser...
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1916kx
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1917lu

You want the factory cut that runs the length to be on top. That will be used to align the set screw of the SureFire adapter and hold the laser in place. I put the output end facing down on a hard surface and put gentle downward pressure on the SureFire adapter while screwing in the 1.5mm set screw. (There was NO pressure required to put these together, I was just going for alignment.) You also need to "index" the cut slot onto the laser body to where you can still access the windage/elevation adjustment screws on the head of the laser. Speaking of screws, you can see the two mounting screw marks left on the SureFire body in the picture above. That's what we also need with the indexing... a flat area to make contact with on the laser body.
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1918m
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1919is

Insert the whole unit (after installing the battery and pressure switch assembly) into the Vector upper. Put that 2mm set screw back in at the end of the top rail... being sure to align it to the hole in the SureFire adapter.
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1938m

If you pull the whole length of cable through, you will get this Suspect :
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1921ah

So, try experimenting with leaving coils in the upper until you find what works for you... like this:
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1932vb

Here's what it looks like all together:
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1923y
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1924xa
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1926su
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1931ac

...and if you don't have a side rail to hold the cable and you didn't install the velcro onto the pressure switch for proper mounting... and you use what is laying around at 1:30 in the morning... you get this MacGyver config jocolor :
Laser in the light house - Page 2 Img1929uv

Now I need to circle back with the Leapers/UTG folks and find out how KRISS Talk members can go about ordering just the sleeve for this. Who knows... maybe they can also whip up straight cables to match the length of the SureFire rig if there is enough demand.

cheers

i think you mean UTG. Those are the people he is trying to get shorter cables from.

If at all possible I would like to get cables that can clamp onto rails like the SR07 tape switch from SF.

How is the laser itself? Some reviews say the laser is not that bright. I was doing some searching and I think aimshot has a laser that is .81". Do you think that would fit also?

The green laser seems pretty bright to me. Of course, "mileage may vary" with just what light conditions, distance, and color of target you are working with. The output rating on the box and website says 2.0-4.8 mW which is not the brightest in the market, but then again "power is restricted in most jurisdictions not to exceed 5 mW" for laser pointers.

There is also another thread with member "cafox" interested in 3D printing something "similar" to the SureFire adapter, but with a custom inner diameter. He mentions the stock SureFire adapter inner diameter as 0.825"... so, that .81 diameter AimShot *should* fit (then you need to verify length).

I am using a laser I found . It slides right into the hole above the barrel where the light fit's into . All I have to do now is make a pressure switch and I'll be done . Dimension: 11cm x 2.1cm (4.3inches x 0.8inches)
It look's red it's not it's Green .

just an fyi... if you want an green laser to fit in the light house and you want a full 5mw and you don't want to do any modding, don't get the aimshot 8100. it is not .81" it is actually .86". needless to say it does not fit. it going back to opticplanet. Sad

I just found a site that has lasers (red and green) with a mount for vectors. It's designed for airsoft guns, so I am not sure how long it will last on a real vector. regardless its cheap enough to give it a shot (no pun).

I noticed the blurb at the bottom of the "WGC Shop" page: "All Items Sold Are Toys Only."

Anyways, here's another Hong Kong seller of the same stuff for those interested:
