Re: Anyone else a flashlight nut?
Oh, I used some Amazon credit card points and ordered a new light this morning (yes, ANOTHER one)
I've never owned a Jetbeam before, so this will be my first - a Jetbeam BC40. (I tried to post a link to it, but the site software won't let me until I am a member for 7 days, apparently)
It states it puts out 830 lumens. In the candle power forum tests of the light, the output seems pretty close to this in the real world. For $69, it is a good deal.
I considered buying the Eagletac G25C2... Their newest light. Lumens are close, but its $109 for the base 2 cell model, and my favorite vendor doesn't sell on Amazon (so, I can't use my credit card points)
And, the reflector on the G25C2 is just big enough on that one to be almost too big for pocket carry, despite being a 2 cell light (without the extender). So, I wouldn't be carrying it anyway...
This Jetbeam will put out a tiny bit more, and will have a larger reflector head, so output should be a little better.
My daily carry light is my Eagletac T20C2 MK II, so anything I buy now is just to play around with anyway.
For the money, this should be a good light from a name brand (and for the money, it's free for me with those points)

Whoa quite the collection Shipwreck.
I dabble a bit in Flashlight collecting but have slowed down a bit.
Here is my SureFire collection. It all started with a G2Z for airsoft. Then I got weaponlights for my airsoft guns. Then it stemmed into rare SureFires. Now I just look for deals and practical SureFires.
Bought this display case for $50 when my wife and I were visiting her family in San Francisco (we were not married yet). Took this picture in the Hotel we stayed at. Yes, I brought those lights with me.
Oh a little bit of trivia. See the light at the bottom of that case? That is a Surefire L6-PP aka "L6 Porcupine". I sold it for $1000 and used that money toward buying my Kriss. I only paid $600 for the light so I made money on it. Im forever happy to have my Kriss. Especially since china knock-offed the Porcupine. You can see it in the top picture. I had it cerakoted Tan and the spikes in black.
I EDC my Titanium Quark AA which I have powered by a 14500 Li-Ion cell so it puts out 200+ lumens
Here is another light I EDC. The Sunwayman V10A. Since this picture, I have changed it. My friend helped me tap and attach a titanium deep carry pocket clip and I had another guy bore it out to use 17500 for more mah. But I can use AA, CR123 w/ a spacer, or Li-ion cells.

Re: Anyone else a flashlight nut?
Any light with a one inch body can fit into common light mounts. So, many of them will work.
I'd recommend the T20C2 mk II eagletac. About the brightest led to fit into a one inch mount. Get the version with the XM L HO module. I love this light - I have one on my PS90 and one I carry everyday

Re: Anyone else a flashlight nut?
It really depends on what you want in a weapon light. Surefires are pricey. But they work.
For pistols I recommend Streamlight TLR.
For weapon lights it comes down to function and weight.
I like shooting with IR and the only affordable option is Surefire.
But for normal light, look at the 4sevens Maelstrom.
I just picked up a clone of the Surefire mini scoutlight. m300A. I didn't know it but it can take 2xcr123, single cr123 and it will run on a AA! And of course rechargeable li-ions.
I like options for fuel.
Another thing to think about is manipulatin of the light. Tape switches are handy but aside from Surefire SR tape switch, the rest are momentary. This is great for light discipline but you need to know how to use this to your advantage in a force on force engagement.
Another aspect to think about is with a momentary activation, you are kinda screwed in the dark when you need to problem solve a malfunction or reloading.
So what can you do? Constant on. It will help you with one less thing to think about but just keep in mind, bag guys shoot at lights.
With regards to the light, there is hardy an all in one light. You can have throw (light far down range) or flood ( broad light to fill a room)
Can't have both. But you can blend the two in the middle. More than likely you will need a light for 50-100 yds. Hardly you will light up anything past 100yds.
Oh one recommendation is Viking Tactics VTAC-L4. It is $150 and a custom Surefire light exclusive to Viking Tactics. It is a handheld Scoutlight. Just get an E-series mount, Viking tactics makes one so that is convenient.

Re: Anyone else a flashlight nut?
Well, the T20C2 MK II is rated at 720 lumens at the emitter level - 580 actual out the front lumens. There is a weapon kit with the light, mount and pressure switch, if you want a switch. Or, you can buy just the light.
I like it because of the brightness - surefires and nothing else compare. Eagletacs are also built very, very well.
The medium setting is 60 lumens, and this can last up to 13 hours. I chose this because I wanted a light on my carbine that can go thru an entire night, in an emergency situation. The reflector on the T20 model is large enough, that the medium setting of 60 lumens has a good spread. And on turbo - its just damn bright...

Re: Anyone else a flashlight nut?
...my wife often asks me, "..why do you have or need so many flashlights?" And gentlemen my collection pales in comparison. Quite honestly, I think an 'intervention' could be on the horizon for both of you.
In appreciation though, I thank you - I'm showing my wife the pics you've both posted. It ought to clear the path for me to purchase at least one more flashlight...

RsC, just tell her it is like shoes. You need them in all sizes and colors. You need the pokey one to smash zombies in the face, you need the tan one to match your tactical outfits, you need the green one to match your OD Green gear, you need the weapon mounted ones to go with your weapons. I bet she has shoes to wear for just so certain occasions, well the same goes for flashlights. Only flashlights are much more practical.
Re: Anyone else a flashlight nut?
HOLY SHIT!
I carry a Fenix LD10 all the time and have various led's in the cars, junk drawers and stuff, but nothing like that first post or Solscud's. I will probably be purchasing a Surefire 6P LED for an AR soon though unless someone has a better suggestion.

Re: Anyone else a flashlight nut?
Get a 6PX tactical. Much brighter. Don't mess about with dual modes. As recoil could switch modes on you.
Re: Anyone else a flashlight nut?
The most powerful light I have. It pales in comparison to my other flashlight fanatics.
I have a few large flashlights
Put my coast led flashlight in the lighthouse. Oh yea I have a few flashlights.

You know it's a powerful flashlight when you have to lean in to it!

Re: Anyone else a flashlight nut?
Those are awesome -- I am a cheapo when it comes to lights. I loose them faster than anything. I had a few from this China Direct shipper. free shipping (2 weeks) They do the job for me and are cheap. Quality is not bad either. The mount sent on this one was for a bike but I have a better mount anyway.

I'm thinking about mounting the 3 million candle power light to the bottom rail of my sdp in order to hold similar to a forward grip. Blind-n-Disorient

Re: Anyone else a flashlight nut?
In all reality, that is overkill and unless you train with the 3 million candle power light, it is going to get in your way.
Lights are getting brighter and brighter.
Go get a Surefire Fury or a X300U. both are 500 lumens and more than enough to blind yourself and your intruder.

Re: Anyone else a flashlight nut?
The thing that get me about them is the actual cree is about $6.00 and the body's are aluminum. There can't be all that much R&D into them now. The development comes in the form of the cree chips. Which I doubt they have their hands in. There are sites that have guys mod them and everything.
The cheap ones I have had luck with have never failed and have a glass lens, all sealed (o rings) and such
What I can say is that they (cheap ones) exaggerate the lumen output. Its usually the case when you get to the 700-1000 lumen ones. The smaller ones are usually on.
The 3 million candle is cool -- kill them by UV rays
