Should I be worried? Empty Should I be worried?

Greetings,

Not to be confused with another post i just saw, I too just got my CA version of the Kriss SDP. I took it to the range Saturday.

First I will say is I love this gun. The recoil is so light and I love it in SDP. It's almost like an SBR. I attached the Viridian X5L-RS green laser to it and after zeroing in it was a joy to shoot from a comfortable mid chest two hand hold. I was putting nice groups of holes on target from any range (indoor range).

OK now for the issues I hit which I was very disappointed in since it's new and I've read the stories of people who say it will eat any ammo without issues for them. I was using new 230 gr ammo, not reloads. I also had a brand new factory glock 21 10 round mag.

First thing is like others have reported, the charging is ridiculously hard. It has to be like a 40lb pull or something. I feel like I'm going to snap the handle off each time.

Second, out of the 100 rounds I shot I got 5-8 FTE. On the CA version with the bullet button FTE's stuck even more to clear. This was the most frustrating part.

Third, at the end of some of my shoots the brass from the last round would stay in the ejection port. Not jammed, just laying on top of it. Weird.

So I'm hoping those owners before me will tell me this is normal for a new Kriss and it will break in after a few hundred more rounds? Or did I get a lemon (which seems to be happening more lately from the posts I see).

Thoughts?

I took my KRISS SDP out for the first time today (posted about it earlier) and I have a similar concern about FTE's. Seems this may be the proverbial chink in the armor.

Despite all the things I really like about the gun, nothing overcomes concerns about reliability. If you can't reasonably count on a bang when you pull the trigger, you "can't pass go". Sad

Update:

I took it apart and cleaned it all, re-oiled everything and put it back together. The charging seems a little easier now, but I put a fish scale on it and it's taking 30-35lbs of force to pull back (pulling as showing in the video). It's doable and feels a lot less than before, but I still wouldn't call it "easy". That said I could live with it if everything else functioned well.

Went to the range for the 2nd time. Put 150 rounds though it. Different brand of new 230gr FMJ. Had only 3 FTE issues this time which is a big improvement. Still getting the brass laying in the ejection port. In fact I happen to notice a few times (I don't look after every shot) a few instances were the ejected brass had flipped around and the casing was pinned to the front of the eject port, but the bolt was forward and the next round ready to shoot. (There is that big archway in the design, the rear lip of the casing somehow got logged in that arch. One instance I pull the bolt back a little to free it and removed it, another I just shot it and both the new round brass and this brass ejected OK. So knowing it doesn't cause a FTF i'm not sure how often that happens. Here is a pic of it:

So I'm hopeful this is moving in the right direction and breaking in more. However any FTE is bad in my book. I have Glocks, LWRC, and a SCAR and they all go bang when I pull the trigger. I hope I can get my Kriss in the same camp.

Here is something that might help:
Jbravo70 wrote:Ok guys, you want to make the charging handle smoother and easy take down these steps. I also bought the California sdp version, and man was it hard to rack back. I am strong and been around guns all my life, but I had very hard time charging this handle back. My hand was swollen the 1st day I got it, I tried so hard that my hand was sore for days, I was really pissed, cause its a pricey firearm. Ok, step one: take it apart, u can find way on YouTube. Lube it up good inside but don't let it drip of oil when assembling it.
Step2: Charge handle back and leave bolt open. Do not put loaded magazine in it. Leave it in your safe like this for one week. This will soften the spring. You will be amazed, but not finished yet.
Step 3: fire at least 400-500 or more rounds through it. Clean it like in step 1. And put back in safe with bolt opened back again for another 1-2 weeks. Then it will be like u see in the videos. Trust me, this will work. The spring is big and hard, they made parts very big and hard so it would last and take the 45 cal punishment. This is the "seasoning" of the kriss, and will handle like a dream right after. You will notice difference after step 1. Hope this helps. :-)

Yeah I saw that video. Weird how your mag kept dropping too. Did you find out the issue? Have you shot it again since then?
