Well Stipple My Grips Empty Well Stipple My Grips

Post by RubbaDubbaBubba Thu Mar 28, 2013 12:54 am

Howdy Boys,

I hate gloves, they're either too expensive, too small or too large, too stiff or not durable enough. I'm a
Cheap Bastard, well this is til I bought my Kriss, now I'm broke. LOL.....

Anyway, during cold weather my hands are not pliable, they give me problems. During the summer they're
sweaty and slippery and the texture of the Kriss grips are too smooth and does not provide me enough grip,
so I cured that. I stippled my grips, I think it looks good and for me it's functional. See what you think.

I'm posting my pics showing off my handi-work on Kriss, so here goes.

Tools Required:
- A inexpensive low watt solder iron. Clip off the sharp point and use a file to round out the tip.
Well Stipple My Grips 20130315
- A open area and a fan to provide plenty of ventilation.
- A hand with a light touch, applying heat too long or too much pressure can ruin your project.
- Allocated lots of time for the project
- Sandpaper to smooth down the sharp edges produced when stippling the plastic.

BE WARNED:
1. Fumes and smoke put off when stippling the grips is pretty hard on the eyes and nose.
2. The smell of burnt plastic also lingers in a room for a long time.

Beginning The Job
Proceed by taking the solder iron and make light impressions into the plastic to the outer perimeter (The Red Lines) of the item you are stippling. Once you have made your boundary, proceed inward toward the center lightly tapping the plastic to produce the pattern (The Blue Dots) you want . You can make any pattern you wish, lines, circles, etc..
Once you've completed your work take the sandpaper and smooth down to your liking, I like mine a little rough. Finish texture is up to you.

My Mossberg Persuader, I stipple the fore stock and grooved a spot to apply Velcro for my light pressure switch. I just replaced my shoulder stock with a SpecOps Gen II Adjustable Shotgun Stock to reduce recoil and have not had time to stipple it. May I do a video when I do and post it.

Buddybaja, it is done with a soldering iron and a whole lot of time.

Good job on the stippling.

Looks awesome. But I don't hsve the stones to do this to the kriss. Haha. The "light touch" part is where I get lost. Lol

Awesome job man. I dont really wear gloves while shooting either. I LOVE the consistancy of the stippling (really takes a steady hand). Looks like you have had some pratice with your other weapons. Your fastly becoming a integral part of this community! I cant wait to see your next mod beers

Interesting placement for the quick release sling mount! Haven't seen anyone put it there.

I see it in one picture, then just a bolt head in two others?

Not sure which way it is at the moment.

I see the bolt head on the ejection side and the quick release sling mount on the charging handle side.

Anyone have pics of "other patterns" that they have done? I would like to see different types of stippling before I do mine.........can't go back and change the pattern "after" it is done.

Maddog- do a Googly Search for "Glock stippling," there are a lot of threads out there on patterns and techniques. Smile
