Griping the Vector
So if you have been following along. I run a modified Magpul AFG on my KRISS Vector. It is ergonomic and gets more contact higher and closer to the bore axis. I have been casually following Magpul Dynamics and I notice that Chris Costa and Travis Haley use a thumb over bore grip on their ARs. So I decided to experiment with this. The thought behind it, is to control the "impulses" from the barrel. Griping the Vector at the AFG bottom rail, doesnt help control the movements at the end of my barrel. My hand placement is to central to the weapon body. I cant easily control the tip of the muzzle from all the way back there. I was a little leery about this technique on the KRISS carbine since the shroud is not free floating. But since I just like to run and gun at my local shooting matches I decided to try it out.
Pics of the thumb over bore grip.
Here is a video I posted.

Anyone else try this technique or something else on the KRISS Vector?

Re: Griping the Vector
So i tried this gripping today at the range and i must say WOW what a difference in accuracy. The RO thought i was on crack holding my gun this way but it increased my accuracy almost tenfold, especially on my weak side.

Im glad it helps someone else. I mean who cares what people think. People like Chris Costa and Travis Haley of Magpul Dynamics use this style of grip for a reason.
I have heard this grip is used by AR competitors.
Mareshow, did you try rapid fire strings? I notice it helps with rapid fire.

I tried it with everything, unfortunately with only ten round mags legal it made for real short rapid fire but i could get a double tap in the same hole time after time at 25 yards. Yeah he was like "what happens if the bolt explodes?" my response was pretty sure i'd be more concerned with my faces inches from the gun that my left had near the end of the barrel

Yeah you can't do much with a catastrophic failure haha. Considering the SMG fires so fast and has no problems I think we are good.
There is nothing wrong with 10 rd mags. NY requires 10 rd mags too. But there is a loophole with preban and extensions. But fir reliabilty, i like the 10 rd post bans. Just get 4 of them and practice your reloads. Watch my video again and look at my reloads in the 3rd stage.

The only thing i dont like about the placement on the mag release is you need your non trigger hand to release it. Thus if you have your hand up on the barrel like that it's quite a distance to drop the mag, grab the new mag, insert it and go back to shooting position. unlike a lot of ARs and even some SMGs You need your forward hand to do almost all the work while your trigger hand doesnt do anything. I think that if they do an update they should incorporate something that allows you to at least release the mag (close the bolt would be nice but hey one step at a time) But so far thats my only complaint. The gun is super accurate, reliable and easy to control not much else i could ask for

Does the barrel shroud get hot?

The mag release really is in a terrible spot. The front of the mag well almost seems like a perfect spot to grip the gun, especially since there are wells for a tape switch right there. But that is a terrible spot to grip the gun because you have to cover the mag release and it is pretty easy to accidentally drop the magazine. Additionally, I've seen quite a few people put there hand there and ride the mag release, so the bolt will not hold open on the last round.

The problem is that the KRISS' Vector is a glorified Glock. I have plans for a lever that will be installed on the right side of the receiver. So like on an AR you just point your index finger and tap the lever and it will release the mag. Magpul's battery assist device (B.A.D) lever gave me the inspiration.
Re: Griping the Vector
During my matches, I find that sometimes the bolt doesn't stay open. I'm not sure if it is me or the last round. It happened in my stage 2 and stage 3 right before I switched to shoot from my weak side. This causes confusion for me and it takes me a moment to realize the bolt is closed and a rd didn't chamber.
One of my friends who see a STI for the matches, says it is faster to eject with rounds in the mag. The extra tension on the mag spring and weight of the rds in the mag will help the mag to fall faster.
Also you know that there is a rd in the chamber and all you need to do is seat a fresh mag. Then you don't need to close the bolt, you just switch the safety off and resume shooting.
I will need to see what tips there are for easing a full mag on a closed bolt. I know some people download 1 rd so there is some give on the close bolt.

Re: Griping the Vector
I find that for some reason when my girlfriend shoots the gun on the last round or so of the magazine it wont load a new round. I'm not sure why it does this, but it only does it for her.... For me i can fire as fast as possible till the mag is empty. But after watching her shoot i think it is because your hand unintentionally touches the bolt catch and that messes with the function some how. Not sure i can prove it but whenever it happens to her, her hand is really close to that lever. Now that i'm getting more experience with the gun i'm noticing that reload time can be decreased in you keep your hand on the magwell. Not only because the mag release is there but the bolt release as well and with practice it becomes one fluid motion.

Re: Griping the Vector
In December I participated in my club's highpower match. I borrowed the club's AR. The mags I used had issues. the last round would not chamber. Instead the bolt would lock back.
Perhaps it is a mag issue?
But considering you said your GF does it everytime you shoot but it doesnt happen to you, then I would say it is something she is doing.
