Sights and optics Empty Sights and optics

Post by Solscud007 Wed Mar 21, 2012 10:54 am

Ok So as you may have seen, I have a thread about the original Magpul MBUS2.5. KRISS USA says that the BUIS are not the same as AR Sights. I can finally confirm that is true. They are shorter than AR sights.

My KRISS BUIS are zeroed at 50 yds. (at least that is what it is said from factory) I zeroed my Eotech to the front post. When I put that Eotech on my AR, the 12 o'clock position of the ring, is at the top of the AR front post. So I can use the Eotech on my AR, I just have to use the 12 o'clock position as my POA.

I will be testing this, on Sunday, at a 200 yd range match.

If you have the time, energy, and digital calipers... remove the post itself from the AR and the KRISS front sights and measure them. This will tell us all how much of a difference in height and also allow us to search for a replacement front post of the right size for options. Smile

My internal debate is raging between an EoTech Vs Aimpoint for my new CRB. I'd appreciate some 'opinions'; realizing that opinions are like a$$#oLes. Everyone's got one. But, I'd still love to hear what the majority of you run...

I run Eotec. It has worked well for my matches. But my friend Allen had issues with the eotec and switched to aim point.

Which Aimpoint did Allen switch too & what type of issues were the catalyst for the change?
...plus, took our new CRB out the other day. What a blast!

I have an EOTech (552) and like it. The "field of view" of the EOTech vs. a tube was important to me. I'm a "regular guy" so although the night vision capabilities are not critical to my needs, the field of view pictures on this EOTech page were still interesting to me:

Either company should do you right with their products. Today, that's probably the EOTech XPS2/EXPS2 or the Aimpoint Micro T-1.

Here is the thread that Allen mentions his EOTech was defective: http://www.krisstalk.com/t163p15-pnw-arms-kriss-accuracy-test

At the moment, an older style EOTech and the Micro T-1 are both on the front page of the "coming soon" KRISS USA site: http://www.kriss-usa.com/

Very Happy

I run the aimpoint micro. The battery issue was reason enough for me to go aimpoint over eotech, but also weight savings and the fact that I don't think I have ever heard of anyone having trouble with an aimpoint. There are scores of problems that have been had with eotechs. If you shoot with both eyes open, the FOV issue is null.

YMMV

im going to use my deltapoint, hoping it wont be to high w/ that detachable mount, sits nice on cx4, bought that in 9mm for daughter to learn on, gave her delta point off my sig (was using as backup site), but now its going on kriss, probably get her cheap vortez or other red dot for cx4.

still waiting on kriss to make it to dealer, then more waiting on stamp.

Swimming against the tide I suppose, but I'm getting set to order a Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.25x4 SPR reticle. There are a number of reviews out on this scope ... Truth About Guns has an informative one.

I plan to order a LaRue mount ... Optical centerline 1.375" from top of rail ... scope is 9.40" in length. Does anyone have an opinion about the correctness (or not) about the mount?

Thanks- BillB

i have that leupold on my sig 516 with a pepr mount, id say you are going to hate it on kriss once you see that your site height is so jacked up that you can't hit shit at any range but zero. just my experience with it, i forget exact numbers, in a post on here but basically my poi was raised like 10" over 10' (30-40') i think with a 30' zero, it's insane the arc of .45 because how high the optic is over the barrel really.

i ended up mounting delta point right on rail to keep site height low and my arc smoothed out quite abit.

great optic btw, just horrible for kriss, my opinion.

Really appreciate your reply. I know only a little about about scopes & mounts, but I think you missed where I said that the LaRue mount will place the scope centerline only 1.375" above the rail. Surely that is not jacked up and should therefore be different than your experience. I was more concerned about the scope clearing the flipped down rear sight and if it could possibly be so low as to also be interfered with by a flipped down front sight.

Again, thanks for your reply.

i apologize, i misinterpreted post, 1.3" is pretty low for distance from the dot to the rail, my delta is ~1" when im holding it level.  those rings have to be insanely low.

you will probably end up setting the scope more towards rear, the eye relief at 4x isn't so great so unless you want to crane your neck forward you have to mount scope closer to your eye. the larger part of the scope is the rear, you won't have room for flip up rear at 1.3", the biggest part of optic is 1 3/4", my rear is about .5" high.  but clearing rear buis  isnt really a concern because your optic will probably be so far back it won't be able to flip up.

here you can see how far back i mount mine on 516 so i can keep head in same position and have eye relief at 1 or 4x.  I think the eye relief is related to it only being 30mm so not enough light comes into optic.

aside from that, I don't think that is right optic for kriss, 1. you can't shoot 2 eyes open, its 1.25 so you get walleye vision, 2. its long 3. its a .45, 4x isn't really a need, lots of guys shoot .223 farther than .45 goes w/out magnification. 4. its relatively heavy

to each his own but for the cost of patrol you can get some really nice red dots.

I have tried four or five optics and have settled on a Trijicon Micro ACOG.  At 1.5 power I can still shoot with both eyes open, it has slight magnification for 50 + yard shots, very small and light but does not need batteries.  The most important thing for me is the circle dot reticle is crystal clear even with my Astigmatisms which prevent me from seeing electronic red dots clearly.

Maddog that sounds like exactly what I need. I have astigmatism as well.  What model # is your Trijicon?

I have both the SDP and the CRB. So far, I don't like anything I've tried but the Eotech XPS-2 and 512 on the SDP. My other Eotechs are raised 7mm and don't co-witness well. With anything else, I tend to lose the dot sometimes even though I am very used to acquiring red dots since I use a C-More on my USPSA open class race pistol. The 65 MOA ring definitely helps with the SDP. On the CRB, I just installed a 13 MOA Trijicon RMR dual illuminated with an American Defense mount for Troy BattleSights that co-witnesses perfectly with the Kriss sights. With the stock and a check weld, I have no problem acquiring the huge 13 MOA dot. I've only done limited testing with it, but so far, within 25 yards it seems to do very well.

Both are quality optics, but the trijicon has been around a lot longer, and been through its "beta testing" by a lot more end users. That'd make me lean that way personally...if I preferred open style RDS. I don't. Tube styles offer several advantages in my mind. First is the issue of moisture and condensation. On my RMR's wet weather often caused distortion of the dot, because of interference with the projection from the diode to the glass. Tube styles eliminated that issue for me. The adjustment dials on the RMR would occasionally move as well. A dab of clear nail polish fixed the issue, but still.

Aimpoint T-1's replaced my RMR's. I forward mount them on all my rifles, as far as he rail allows with BUIS. There are several reasons for this, but it aids in rapid target acquisition particularly from any low ready or hand off the weapon position. It also aids in field of view focus issues, and encourages both eyes open shooting. I'll do a write up in tactics once my Kriss arrives and I set t up.

Hope this helps. I recommend trying a tube style before purchasing a mini RDS at the very least.
