Project affordable KRISS Vector case
My friend Brian approached me and wanted to make a case similar to KRISS USA
Here is the KRISS Storm case. a bit pricey at $369.99
According to KRISS:
- Pelican Storm Case IM3100
- Hard-foam insert that repels water and protects your KRISS
Pelican storm cases are over $200, not much chance of getting that cheaper.
Hard foam is actually closed cellpolyurethane polyethylene foam. There are different densities.
Brian and I purchased the Plano All-Weather Gun Gard case. It is a clone of a pelican case. Not quite as good but much better than your standard Plano gun case. The case is stiffer and has hard core latches. It even has a pressure equalizer purge. At a retail price of over $100 we found some for just shy under $100.
Now the next part was to source closed cell poly foam. We found some in NYC. It is very dense. I can stand on it and it wont even make a depression. It doesnt absorb water like a sponge. Pelican pick-n-pluck is open cell and soaks up water. KRISS says theirs repels water, but I think that is misleading. closed cell foam just doesn absorb it.
We traced my KRISS and hand cut it. The next step is to make a digital layout and get multiple inserts professionally cut. We are thinking laser or water jet cutting. We plan to mimic the KRISS USA insert layout. we will leave the cut away so for your SBR folks, you can leave the shroud portion in.
Here are the pics.
We bought some red foam to put as the bottom layer. Just to give it that pizazz.
We made this prototype to show to KWA when they come next week to show off the airsoft KRISS SMG. If we get interest in the airsoft community we can order these cases in bulk and offer some up here. I am hoping for $150 or less for the case and inserts.
Oh and the top layer will be similar to the bottom layer. It will be black with KRISS laser cut and red showing underneath.
What do you guys think?

Here is a digital mock up of the concept we have for the top layer.

If you plan to sell it, let me know. I'll take one. Love the red insert.

UPDATE:
It has come to my attention that I have been using the wrong terminology. We are using Polyethylene Foam. I don't know much about the difference but Polyurethane has faults, issues of gassing out and decomposition.

I forget. Somewhere online. Shop around you can get them for under $100.
Re: Project affordable KRISS Vector case
Amazon has them at a better price than ebay. If you are a Prime member, 2 day shipping for free

Looks good -- I personally dont like ads on the outside of my case. It can cause issues sometimes.
There is a trick with the soft foam like the original Kriss case has. Freeze it with canned air and it cuts easier.

Thats something I've never heard.
How do you get to the lower part of the foam?
Interesting idea.....

Re: Project affordable KRISS Vector case
I called Plano to order one yesterday. It was $12 + shipping. I would be interested to see if I could get a different foam that was not pluckable to fit in the Plano case.

Re: Project affordable KRISS Vector case
$12 dollars for the case? They quoted us a price of $67 each if we bought 100 units. You have to be talking about the foam.
Closed cell Polyethylene foam can be bought from various sources online. Google it.
I purchased mine locally in Manhattan and bought a full sheet. They cut it for me and I have 7 planks cut to size for this Plano 108360 case.

Brian, I think he means the replacement foam.

Re: Project affordable KRISS Vector case
Thanks to this forum I pulled the trigger and ordered the Plano AW Tactical Case 42". It only took 1 day for the case to get here. This is a very nice replacement for the stock Kriss case. I used a bread knife to cut the shape. Not perfect but good enough

That looks fantastic!
Does anyone know of a smaller case similar to this but deep enough to carry the Vector with the stock folded?
I'd like less length and width. Thickness isn't an issue as I know it's much thicker when folded.
Thanks!
Take care
