AFG/VFG Free-Float Forend Empty AFG/VFG Free-Float Forend

I made this grip/forend because I wanted a free float forend to be able to use a thumb-over-bore grip, or have the option of gripping via the AFG/VFG. The entire assembly can be removed by unscrewing the 3 bolts in the AFG/VFG and sliding off the bottom rail. It requires no modifications to the KRISS, and adds negligible weight.

It's a Magpul AFG 1 cut and epoxied to a Magpul VFG, then filled with epoxy, then sanded for the final shape/contours. I attached them to a spare picatinny rail for alignment as I was adding/setting the epoxy. The grip assembly is epoxied to a 1.5" inner diameter carbon fiber tube with vent holes drilled using RubbaDubbaBubba's template method ( http://www.krisstalk.com/t721-another-shroudy-day-updated-04-04-2013?highlight=-+Another+Shroudy+Day ).

The entire grip/forend is sprayed with black truck bed liner for the final finish. The overall length of the forend piece is 6" and protrudes 4" past the lip of the AFG. The forend is free floating with about 1/16" celearance around the factory barrel shroud.

I didn't do a very good job of documenting construction, but here are some pics of the grip during the epoxy process:

Interesting. Thumb over bore works better the further out you reach along the bore.

Here is my freefloat rail.

Yup. The forend is just long enough so my left arm is fully extended (elbow locked) when gripping thumb-over-bore a la Costa.

Ha! Yah just call me tyrannosaurus... JK Shocked The butt pad on my rifle is extended a little and I also end up grabbing it out at the end of the forend. Since The forend only has a few inches of attachment to the AFG, I couldn't make it too long or it would flex and contact the factory shroud while gripping. Its a little bit of a compromise but seems to work OK.

Edited to add pics -

I'm 6'4" and have arms that are proportionate to my height (at least I think so Very Happy ), here's the thumb-over-bore grip with the forend:
