Same here when you star a new post the body of the message goes very cimm!!
As to ammo bought 1000 rounds of reman 230 gr TMJ at local gun show for 380. Used it before and no FTE or any problem with ammo! And then as I was at the range a reloader said he got his 45 ammo cost down to 20 cents a round ! Buzzkilll!!!

Extremely cool Kiptro! I have to get on this like NAOW!
Aero.... your avatar..... YES!
I really really want my 45 ammo down to 20cents! Someone needs to post some links on how to achieve this!!!
I have been going to 3 different stores every morning at 8am and they have been dry for going on 10 days now! These trips are only boosting to my cost! I will be taking a reload class at my Range soon. Any tips on reload materials would be really appreciated!

Re: New user here HI! Any luck with Ammo?
The rcbs rock chucker kit costs round $300 and you can get a $50 cash rebate back through the mail. Other than that you'll need a scale that measures in GRAINS. Components are hard to find right now, steadily rolling into stores. 1000 230 grain round nose fmj cost round $140. The powder is round $100 per 8lbs (will load 65,000 rounds with 8lbs). Primers are $35 per 1000. Brass is most expensive $35 per 100. You can use any spent brass with no damage or defects. 45acp brass can be reloaded 1000+ times, if no defects (must visually inspect, test with micrometer, and polish brass). 45acp is known around the reloading world as the best/easiest round to load.

Re: New user here HI! Any luck with Ammo?
Wow! Thanks for all of that info Kiptro! It definitely sounds like it isn't worth it as of right now... The brass alone is .35 cents per round??? damn. I definitely want to check this out though just to have the knowledge, experience, etc. I truly appreciate this sort of information Kip. Really nice.
I am going to do a search for everything I need and I will post up what I come up with.
Thanks again guys!

Re: New user here HI! Any luck with Ammo?
(8lb=56,000 grains) conversion factor was off in quote. You can get 12,444 charges out of the 8lb with my recipe. Which would cost 8/10th's of a cent for each powder charge. Please check my conversion factor and math again.
$0.14 bullet (1000@$140)
$0.035 primer (1000@$35)
$0.008 powder charge
$0.00 brass (you should have piles of spent 45 acp brass)
------------
$0.183 cost per match grade hollow point. Enjoy!

YEah I guess I should start collecting my brass at the range.... Do you have links for where you purchase your materials at these costs? That would be a great help!
Thanks Kiptro!

Re: New user here HI! Any luck with Ammo?
[/hide]Kip, I only come up with 9491 for 8 pounds. Using the standard of 7000 grains per 1 #, with a load of 5.9 grains per case, equals 1186 rounds X 8# equals 9,491 loaded rounds.. * 8# of powder from Powder Valley runs $131.20 and comes out to .11 a round?
These loads are for a 230 grain RN and fps is roughly 870, depending on temp and humidity?

Re: New user here HI! Any luck with Ammo?
I'm running Alliant RED DOT 8lb ($103.99) at 4.5 grains charge, with rainer lead safe electroplated bullets rn fmj *recommended to use lead bullet load data. These are the same bullets that PNW's KRISS specific ammo uses.
(1lb=7000 grains)---(56,000grains=8lbs)--(56,000 grains/4.5 grain powder charge=12,444 powder charges) ($103.99/12444 loaded rounds=$0.0083 per powder charge)
My calculations put the fps @ 850 with pressure around 13,000 cup depending on temp and humidity and height above sea level.

I watch backpage. found 1000 rounds of federal 230gr 45acp for $350. A good point to start and was able to pick it up on the way to the range. works really well in my Kriss.

Re: New user here HI! Any luck with Ammo?
I know this is a pretty old thread, but hopefully some of you guys are still around... Anybody tried running Rainer Hex hollowpoints through the Kriss? Ive been through thousands of them in my 1911s, 185 and 230gr. About to pick up a Kriss SDP and hoping I can use the stockpile of Rainier hollowpoints that I have....

Re: New user here HI! Any luck with Ammo?
For anyone that may be searching for this in the future, heres an update... I tried out a few different reloads yesterday. Rainier 230gr hex hollowpoints and 200gr round nose with varying COLs and had no issues with any of them. Was using Bullseye and Red Dot powder.
