quality control issues...
hi gang,
took the carbine to the range today for the second straight day.
shot 300 rounds of umc and federal brass from walmart.
no failures.
i did notice notice a couple of small issues.
first is that the set screw that holds the shroud in place got
lose and i could twist it quarter inch to either side. this happened
after yesterday's session and after i retightened it for todays session.
if it happens again i quess i will try some loctite.
second issue, that is a little more pressing, is the lower rail is lose
and wiggles from side to side. is there anyway to tighten this.
the rail is held in place by a small roll pin but there doesn't appear
to be anyway to tighten the rail.
is this a common issue and we just have to deal with it?
does it seem like the charging handle spring is a little flimsy?
i was expecting something more robust? has anyone had
issues with this spring breaking?
i have a newer production gun so i believe the internals are up to date.
are there other things i should watch out for? this rifle is nothing like
i ever shot before and i need to get used to the handling of the gun but so far
it shoots straight!

Hmmm, neither of those sound right to me either. The spec of the Loctite used for the shroud (and other interesting bits) is within this doc:
http://www.kriss-tdi.com/images/stories/pdfs/KRISS_Armorers_Course.pdf
There have been rails out of spec with some of the past Vector serials, but it was not a side to side movement problem. You are correct that it takes 1 roll pin and slides off. I'd suggest contacting KRISS USA directly and they will probably send you out another lower rail... as well as discuss the spring and anything else you have questions on.
Nothing special to look out for with a new unit that I know of... other than to follow the maintenance specs for lube at key places and cleaning.

Re: quality control issues...
thanks mambro,
the pdf was exactly what i needed.
i'm a little bit of a clean gun obsessive so that's not a worry. i like to shoot my guns wet also.
it was a little awkward breaking it down and cleaning it for the first time:)
i think the bottom rail is definitely an issue and i will contact them but i want to spend some time with
the rifle first and give it a couple of months to see if there is anything else that pops up.
i wish the rails were just screws and you can tighten it. i have had rails on my ar's get lose but
i just retightened and it was good to go.

Be careful with the side hard points for the rails. If you keep tightening it, you may pull the nut out of the lower receiver.

thanks for the heads up but i'm not understanding.
are you talking about the screw holes for the side rails? i don't have any side rails mounted.
the only thing i have tightened is the set screw for the shroud?

Re: quality control issues...
Yeah the side of the reciever has two nuts, each side. If you use a long screw and screw something there, you could possible pull the nut out. So be careful.
Re: quality control issues...
good to know. thanks a bunch.
looking into some side rails. is there a consensus on which ones to get? i want to mount a laserand i have a mount for my countour video camera i want to
mount.

Re: quality control issues...
I'll save you some research. You can pretty much forget about mounting anything on the left side. The rail stis right beneath the charging handle. So mounting anything on there will more than likely interfere with the charging handle.
Hmm contour camera. Have you seen my videos? while a small compromise I use my GoPro inverted and it covers my left eye so I get the closest thing to true point of view recording.
What laser are you running? What optic?

i was afraid the left side would be no joy.
i'm not really an optics guy. i have an aim point style red dot for my mp5 semi auto. i decided i like that set up and will purchase a real aim point for it. i want an acog 4x32 for my bushmaster. i have a 10.5 inch upper on it now.
i want a close quarter setup for the vector but i have never really had a lot of experience with optics.
i'm guessing an aim point would be ok for the vector? or do people prefer a holographic sight? i have never used a holographic sight.
i have a cheap but small red laser on my mp5 and 10.5 inch ar with a pressure switch. i like that setup for quick target acquisition.
i use the contour on my snowboards and i got a contour gun mount that i haven't used yet. i can mount the contour on the right side and the small red laser on the bottom rail with my grip.
never shot a glock until today but what a perfect carbine handgun setup. never have been into glocks but it just made too much sense.
will use my hk45 with the ump and i use a sig 226 navy with my ar. thinking about getting a cx4 storm to use with my px4 storm and beretta 92 setup.
sometimes i feel like i'm buying a purse to match my shoes

You woman you haha. Well when we meet up you can try my set up. I run an eotec. I also have a green dot with an external red laser which might suit your needs.
Re: quality control issues...
that sounds like a plan. i'm really clueless about optics but i guess you really can't go wrong any quality optic.

Re: quality control issues...
another observation from the range today with the kriss.
after breaking it down and examining the ejection port, it's started
to look a little ragged. from the manual and pdf, it appears this part
is removable and user replaceable. so not a super huge deal but for a
gun at this price range, it makes the gun look a little ragged.
the gun's barrel shroud stayed tight and did not loosen after this range session
like the prior two range sessions.
